Rewriting Paradise Lost would make anyone feel inadequate. What strikes the reader about Auladell’s sweepingly assured adaptation is its clarity of vision. When he draws Eve hugging herself in wordless misgiving the morning after her dream of Satan, he seems to be drawing the inside, not the outside, of Milton’s poem.
